This is Yooperlite — a stone that appears ordinary by daylight but reveals a stunning fiery glow under UV light. Discovered in 2017 on the shores of Lake Superior, Michigan, by Erik Rintamaki, this unique syenite rock is rich in fluorescent sodalite, which lights up in brilliant orange and yellow when exposed to ultraviolet light .
The name "Yooperlite" combines "Yoopers" — the nickname for residents of Michigan's Upper Peninsula — with "sodalite", the glowing mineral it contains . It's also known as the "Stone of Truth" or "Stone of Expression" .
