Mookaite (also spelled Mookite) is a rare and visually striking Australian jasper. It is found in only one place on Earth, the Kennedy Ranges near Gascoyne Junction in Western Australia, approximately 600 miles north of Perth .

The name "Mookaite" comes from Mooka Creek, the location where it is mined. "Mooka" is believed to be an Aboriginal word meaning "running waters" or "fresh waters", referring to the natural springs in the area .

This stone is not a recent discovery. It is actually the fossilised remains of microscopic sea creatures called Radiolarians that lived approximately 120 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous period . Over millions of years, these tiny skeletal remains absorbed iron and silica from the surrounding environment, transforming into the beautiful, multicoloured stone you see today .
